PMP Exam Preparation

April 7, 2009

Over the past few weeks, I have decided to get certified by PMI and earn the PMP credential. This will give me more credibility as a project manager, and will help me to present myself better to my clients as well as help in my professional career.

The PMP exam is not easy. You need to fill a lot of paperwork, and attend a PMP exam training to collect the 35 contact hours. I attended the PMP exam training in Singapore at Intellisoft.

And I have setup a separate blog to share PMP exam tips and tricks with fellow PMP aspirants. You can find interesting articles and tips to help you prepare for your PMP examination.

Lastly, I came across a pretty inexpensive PMP audio podcast which helps to prepare for the PMP examination, and gives you the required 35 contact hours. Mind you, it only costs $49.95. But if you want to attend face-to-face PMP training, then Intellisoft is a good place to begin your PMP training.

I’ll update you on the PMP resources as I compile them.

Earning a Degree through Online Learning

November 21, 2008

I did’nt realize how far the Internet has reached over the past few years. At the local Informatics school where I enquired to do a degree program, I was surprised to see the huge number of online degree programs available.

I was particularly interested in a US Degree, which I could do without leaving my country or city or my home at all. Imagine, getting an American degree right here!

The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree is offered by Thomas University of Georgia state, USA, and run by the Informatics Global Campus.

Another good thing is that if you happen to be a diploma holder, you can graduate with the degree within a year. Now that’s fast. A degree in kust a year.

While doing some research, I also found out that there’s a thriving community of like minded people, who are all interested in online learning through distance learning at your own time and place, existing on Facebook.

All this activity makes me realize it is easy to fulfill my dreams of getting an American degree. Now I can do so without leaving home. Thanks to the Internet, I can now get a fully accredited University degree, online!

Exploring Craigslist for Link Building

October 21, 2008

I started to notice the increase in popularity for Craigslist in the past few months. I began to wonder what is the secret of this simple site?  Is it possible to leverage it for building links to your site?

I began testing this with creating a couple of ads, and posting them on Craigslist.

Craigslist Singapore

Craigslist Singapore

First of all, a few things to note before you post on Craigslist:

1. You can’t post the same ad in multiple places. Craigslist is smart enough to detect it.
2. It does allow you to post your hyperlinked code into the ad text, so you can use HTML
3. The ad, once posted, is only supposed to be live for the next 45 days.

So what happens after 45 days? Will the ad disappear? I sure don’t know, and would like to know your ideas and opinion on this.

But atleast I prayed to God that Google comes to read the link before the 45 days expire, so that it gets me an incoming link. Lo and Behold. I am really surprised. In less than 24 hours, Google has sent me an alert ( I hope you know how to use Google Alerts) of my ad post listing on Craigslist.

While there, I notices some interesting ads for Buying properties in Singapore from Chesney Real Estate, and Stone Forest IT, which is one of the largest IT outsourcing Company in Singapore. So I guess people are beginning to use and exploit this technique for link building.

Then I googled, and saw Dosh Dosh giving advice on How to Make Money Online using Online Classified Ad Portals like Craigslist, which was quite good, and I picked up a couple of ideas from here.

Your thoughts? Please share it here.

Which HTML Editor – Dreamweaver or Web Expressions

October 14, 2008

After creating dozens of sites in the past year, and conducting PHP and MySQL training in Singapore, I still keep getting questions about which is the best HTML editor out there.

Some are using the Free editor called NVU, but most professionals prefer Dreamweaver or Web Expressions ( aka Microsoft FrontPage)

I checked the stores, reviews, and my own experiences with HTML editors, dating from 1995, and realised that the world is split between WYSIWYG editors and HTML editors. Some prefer to use the simple interface of Frontpage, while others prefer the more professional approach of Dreamweaver.

While researching, I saw that Adobe comes out with updates and new versions very quickly – Dreamweaver CS4 is due soon in Nov 2008.

A store dedicated to HTML editors, HTML books, Video is available from Amazon, shipping directly to you overnight.

I personally like the Dreamweaver CS3, which i think is the best – great templates, editing features, and no messing out the code.

Which HTML editor do you use, and why? Post your replies in the comments below.

Using Squidoo to Create Lenses – Your Take on anything in the world

December 10, 2007

Squidoo is an amazing thing… you can use it to create a website on any topic in the world. And you can put down any lists, any articles, any websites, any resources you like. Then Squidoo adds Amazon books, eBay items on its own, to make it seem like a complete website.

With a simple 1 minute login process, it is a breeze to use. I created a lens on my best shot at Customer Service Training .

Then I liked it so much, within an hour, I created one for Sales Effectiveness & one on Payroll Outsourcing

Now that’s three inbound links to some of my websites. Isn’t it great. Squidoo makes money from Amazon sales, Adsense ads, and eBay auctions. Well, good for them, and good for us too, as they let us create a small website, and links with keywords that we like.

Go ahead, rake up a few lenses, and remember to visit the ones I created, and give them some good stars… After all, It is I who created them… he he he…

B2B Sales Training Resources

December 9, 2007

Selling to Business & selling to Consumers is a different ball game altogether. I had been selling to consumers for so long, that I only realised this when I was exposed to the B2B sales process, sales cycle, and closing techniques  at a recent client meeting.

To my utter amazement, the ways to increase sales effectiveness was handled by a constant follow up process, trainings, white papers, and a whole flurry of tips and techniques  for closing the sales.

There is so much to learn in how to sell to businesses.  In my hunt to find the Best Sales Resources – books, podcasts, sales training and sales effectiveness seminars, I have come across a good resource on the Internet – Sales Training

To increase the effectiveness of your Sales force, or to find the best resources – books, podcasts, articles and downloads on acquiring B2B Sales Skill, visit the Best Resources on Sales Training.

And if you find any other good resources, do send them to me, so I can add them to my resource library.

Doing Business in Singapore

November 25, 2007

Whether you business in online, brick and mortar (offline), or click and mortar ( online & offline), we all need to balance the books and see how much profit have we made ( if we are making a profit, that is…). Since I am based in Singapore, I have to abide by the laws, IRAS, accouting practices in Singapore.

Doing Business in Singapore Guide

Recently I picked the Doing Business in Singapore guide published by IE Singapore ( International Enterprise Singapore) and RSM Chio Lim ( the largest accounting firm in Singapore, outside of the Big 4). It is choke full of advice about how to start a business in Singapore, the various kinds of business entities you can operate, tax laws, auditing laws, accounting laws and regulations, and even advice about outsourcing your accounting to a company.

I though that companies would be keeping their Payroll quite confidential and within their company, but I was surprised to find out that companies routinely outsourced the Payroll to companies like PayrollServe, which focus on only outsourced Payroll Services.

I’m still reading the guide, and will post interesting snippets tomorrow.
